First, to better understand the client, I identified the structure of the business, the pain point, and the learner demographic.
I did this by researching different coffee shops and reading reviews of common complaints.
Second, I framed the learning objective as a pre-training segment, covering knowledge that the business wanted baristas across all branches to know.
I identified knowledge and training gaps by reviewing employee manuals.
Third, I made an outline of various training manuals to determine what information to include and how it should be organized. (design doc. & storyboard).
I took a level game-based approach because the learner in this situation is unaware of the gaps in their knowledge and needs additional stimulation.
Fourth, I identified areas for knowledge checks and scenarios. Knowledge checks occurred for objectives related to quality control and scenarios occurred for objectives related to behavior and direct customer impact
Fifth, I used the previous structures to create visual mock-ups of the connections between the slides, transitions, and content.
This process was repeated until there was cohesion between content, esthetics, and function.
Sixth, I moved to the selected e-learning authoring tool, Storyline 360. For this project, I created, several videos and a lot of customized graphics. I used buttons, triggers, and layers to recreate the sounds and sights one may experience while working in a coffee shop.
Seventh, once the storyboard was worked to completion, I submitted the project for several rounds of reviews and implemented changes based on the feedback I received.
I also distributed the project for learner feedback to determine if they found the material engaging and insightful. I received positive feedback on this front.
